35 international students from 11 countries came to study at VSU. On 11 March, VSU Rector Dmitry Endovitsky had a meeting with interns from Belgium, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, Kirghizia, Estonia, Morocco, China, Turkey, France, Japan, and Germany.
“I am glad to welcome you in Voronezh, in the main building of our university. We are now in the hall charged with positive energy: it has witnessed ambassadors of many countries and prominent politicians. Our university is of European origin: it was established in 1802 following a decree of Russian Emperor Alexander I in the city which is now called Tartu (Estonia). In 1918, it was evacuated to Voronezh and that was when the Russian history of the university started. Today, VSU is involved in active cooperation with many universities of the world. We are the most advanced university in terms of European programmes. We have over 1,300 international students. This term, they include interns. First of all, I would like to wish you good health.”
Dmitry Endovitsky invited the students to visit the Roboart festival which was held on Sunday, 15 March.
Vladimir Rodionov, the Director of the International Education Institute, explained that VSU has been teaching international students since 1970s, since the times of cold war. According to Vladimir Rodionov, the main problem that international students will have to deal with is the language.
“Our educational programmes are in the Russian language. They are all available to you, however, it is not easy to join the educational process because as a rule, your knowledge of Russian is quite poor. My colleagues are preparing educational programmes in English. However, it will take a while. In the meanwhile, we offer you to learn Russian at the Department of Russian language. You will get a chance to study grammar, translation, and Russian culture.
