On 9 October, an expert workshop “Media ecology of the cyberspace” was held in Kaliningrad. The meeting was organised by the centre for communication and multimedia technologies “Mediapark”. Voronezh State University was represented by the lecturers from the Faculty of Journalism: Vladimir Tulupov, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, and Professor Alla Shesterina from the Department of Electronic Media and Speech Communication.

The forum was opened with the report “Risks and threats posed by social networks to schoolchildren’s mental health” presenting the results of the research conducted by Malvina Drucker, the director of the Centre and lecturer from the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University. The report of Professor Vladimir Krivosheev, DSc in Sociology, from the Baltic Federal University titled “Electronic culture: achievements and challenges” was a logical extension of the topic. Alla Shesterina (“Specific features of media perception and media influence”) and Vladimir Tulupov (“Media education in the time of ‘post-truth’”), professors from Voronezh, presented their reports via Zoom. Professor Oleg Dmitriyev from the Higher School of Economics raised significant questions regarding the control of mass information. Reports by the scientists from Saint Petersburg State University, Ekaterina Vyrovtseva and Egor Korolev, regarding the interpretation of the events in social media and development of media literacy of modern schoolchildren triggered a heated discussion. Irina Topchiy, a lecturer from Chelyabinsk State University, talked about online channels with destructive content and how to control them.

The seminar was brilliantly moderated by Mikhail Berendeyev, political and social analyst, Associate Professor at the Baltic Federal University.

All presentations are available on the website of the centre for communication and multimedia technologies “Mediapark”.
