On 13 January, Jack McCormack, the attaché for Cultural Affairs of the Embassy of Ireland in the Russian Federation, visited VSU. He met the students from the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology and the Faculty of International Relations. VSU Rector Dmitry Endovitsky started the meeting with his welcome address. The meeting was supervised by Alla Akulshina, Head of the International Relations office.

“This meeting is especially important for me. Ireland is like an emerald, it’s an evergreen island that I once fell in love with. I’ve travelled all over Ireland and met professors, I studied and communicated with people. The amazing Irish life is still in my heart,” noted Dmitry Endovitsky.

Jack McCormack talked about Irish history, economy, and politics. He also said that Russian and Irish people have a lot in common, for example, in their psychology.

“We need to find out more about Russians and vice versa,” said the attaché for Cultural Affairs of the Embassy of Ireland in the Russian Federation. “On the instruction of Brian McElduff, the Ambassador of Ireland to the Russian Federation, I would like to discuss with you the creation of a platform for intensive cooperation between Irish universities and VSU.”

Today Jack McCormack is the Second Secretary in the Embassy of Ireland in the Russian Federation. His main responsibilities are maintaining cultural relations with the Russian Federation and providing Irish citizens in Russia and Central Asia with consular services.

Jack McCormack worked for the Irish Foreign Office for 5 years and before that he worked at the Embassy in Beijing as well as in the United States and Canada Office in Dublin.
