Four basic principles were taken into consideration when developing the concept for the new faculty in 1999 and later, when shaping the strategy of the faculty development aimed at providing training of specialists in the most modern areas of IT technologies and programming:
The analysis of the experience shows that there are no other faculty at the university or any other universities in Voronezh that would match these principles more than the Faculty of Computer Sciences of VSU. This contributes to the high level competencies of its graduates and, as a result, the demand for the “product” of the Faculty of Computer Sciences at the IT market in the region. Our graduates experience no difficulties in finding a job in Moscow, other cities in Russia or any countries in the world (including the USA, England, Germany, South Korea, etc.).
The faculty uses the latest approaches to the organisation of the educational process and individual learning by students. The curriculum is based on the fundamental classical physical and mathematical university education and includes an extensive set of professional disciplines.
The key feature of the Faculty of Computer Sciences is its close collaboration with leading IT companies in the process of shaping the development strategy and the organisation of the educational process. In 2011, the Community Council was created at the faculty which is comprised of the heads of 23 regional IT companies and branches of Russian and international IT companies.
The Faculty of Computer Sciences has a unique academic team: over 20 professors and staff members with a DSc degree, over 45 associate professors and PhDs, about 50% of lecturers are heads or employees of leading IT companies in Voronezh.
The faculty has a state of the art academic and research facilities: over 250 computers, 16 computer laboratories, a supercomputer centre equipped with a high-performance computing multiprocessor cluster, a laboratory of digital medical technologies, which are connected to a vast network with a continuous Internet access and Wi-Fi coverage of the entire territory of the faculty.
