  • Global recognition of the diploma of the Faculty of Mathematics
  • Developed student self-governance, the opportunity to be involved in research and organisational activities from the very first years at the university
  • Exciting student life, a friendly and vibrant team

The history of the Faculty of Mathematics goes back to 1918, when the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics was opened among the first faculties of VSU (in 1969, the faculty was divided. Since then it has been called “The Faculty of Mathematics”).

In the pre-war period, among the staff of the faculty were such outstanding mathematicians as V.G. Alexeyev (member of the Mathematical Society), N.V. Efimov (laureate of the Lenin Prize), famous algebraist Professor A.K. Sushkevich, Professor M.M. Grinblyum, Professor D.A. Raikov, and others.

Professor V.I. Sobolev, a remarkable teacher and researcher, and one of the first specialists in the USSR in the field of functional analysis, deserves the merit for establishing links between the pre-war and post-war mathematical schools. It was he who invited Professor M.A. Krasnoselsky (in 1953) and S.G. Krein (in 1954) to come to Voronezh. They became the founders of the world-famous Voronezh school of mathematics.

The students of these legendary scientists, as well as the students of their students, continue their scientific traditions. They are actively engaged in research and head scientific and educational institutions in Voronezh, Russia, and abroad.
