The "Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Pharmaceutics", unprecedented in Russia, has just been published by Moscow's "VEDANTA" publishing house. It was compiled during the course of an intensive five-year collaboration between three authors that have long been working at the Faculty of Pharmaceutics of Voronezh State University: Professor Yu.A. Kulikov, Professor A.I. Slivkin, and Associate Professor T.G. Afanasyeva.
The dictionary includes names and definitions for about 6,500 pharmaceutical, pharmacological, and some key pharmacotherapeutic concepts, as well as the relevant objects, processes, methods, and research techniques. For most of them, Latin equivalents and standards are given. The book may be considered a discipline-specific encyclopaedic dictionary, as it includes general terms in the field of pharmaceutics and pharmacology (general, clinical, and developmental). The dictionary also pursues some educational objectives, aiming to provide data on the sources and historical aspects of a term's origin or borrowing, in addition to its application rules.
The book will be useful to both the professional medical community and medical students.
