Since December 2014, Russian journals (over 5,000) quality evaluation has been carried out. The best 1,000 are to be included in a separate database of Web of Science – Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI).
By now, all journals included in the database of the Russian Science Citation Index have been examined. Using formal criteria, the journals that have been considered weak and that have hardly ever been quoted in the scientific society, as well as journals that are not among classical journals were excluded from the new database. Moreover, the journals were distributed into thematic categories – WoS and OECD. The board of experts in bibliometry developed a calculation method for bibliometric indices that can be used for journal evaluation, tested it on a selection of publications in the Russian Science Citation Index, and using the approved method, is preparing a ranking of Russian journals and WoS and OECD rankings.
At the moment the board of experts have selected 649 journals that were included in the Web of Science-based Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) database.
Among them are four journals by Voronezh State University: ‘Vestnik Voronezhskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta (Proceeding of Voronezh State University), series ‘Geology’; ‘Vestnik Voronezhskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta (Proceeding of Voronezh State University), series ‘Geography. Geoecology’. ‘Kondensirovannye fazy and mezhfaznyeye granizy (Condensed matters and Interphase Boundaries”; and ‘Sorptsionnye i Khromatograficheskiye Protsessy’ (Adsorption and Chromatography Processes).
