On 26 January, Krein Voronezh Winter School of Mathematics opened in the Gorky health resort. The event was organised by Voronezh State University, Steklov Mathematical Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and OAO Turbonasos.
The opening ceremony started with the speech of the Head of the Department of Mathematical Modelling of the Faculty of Mathematics professor Vladimir Kostin. He said that Voronezh mathematician Selim Krein was one of the first to introduce such format of communication between prominent scientists, teachers, postgraduate and undergraduate students interested in mathematics as Voronezh Schools of Mathematics. The first Voronezh Winter School of Mathematics opened on 27 February 1967. It should be mentioned that this year participants of the very first School: Yevgeny Semenov, Yury Sapronov and others – visited the event.
Speaking on behalf of the VSU administration VSU Vice-Rector for Research and Informatisation professor V.N. Popov welcomed the participants of the school:
‘To my opinion, it is a very good tendency to see so many young faces in the audience. I would like to welcome our guests and say that Voronezh State University is always ready to have you and to offer you a platform where you could exchange ideas, communicate and hold various scientific events. I wish you work fruitfully and acquire new contacts and ideas.’
This year Voronezh Winter School of Mathematics was dedicated to professor Vissarion Alexeyev’s 150th anniversary. During the first day of the event lecturer at the Department of Algebra and Topological Analysis Methods Nikolai Udodenko made a presentation about life and work of the well-known professor. After that the sessions of the school continued its work.
