On 3–10 July, students of the Faculty of Physics of Voronezh State University took part in the Talents of the Future, a student's summer school of science and technology. It was held in the town of Dubna and was supported by the VSU Department of Innovation and Business. In total, the school was attended by over 60 students from 16 Russian universities, as well as Dubna State University. Fourth-year students, Svetlana Babicheva and Tatiana Krynina, worked in the Biomedical Technologies section, and third-year students, Evgeniy Varlygin, Vladimir Krivykh, and Dmitriy Meshcheryakov, took part in the Nuclear Physics Technologies section. The programme of the summer school was very eventful: there were lectures, project competitions, field trips to innovative enterprises, as well as entertainment and sports events.

The students have shared their impressions with us:

– Participating in the Talents of the Future summer school was a memorable and interesting experience. The varied programme of the event did not leave any time for boredom or even rest. On the very first day, we were immersed in the atmosphere of the Science Town! Particularly memorable for me was the lecture in astrobiology, which made me think about how life was born and how beautiful and complex our world is. Also, I was impressed by the tour of the unique Ailiton plant which showed us the production process of blood collection tubes, said Tatiana Krynina.

– I was amazed by the scale and complexity of the NICA project. Probably everyone remembered the huge synchrotron there. The lectures in mathematical modelling in radiation biology, as well as in radiation technologies in medicine and biology, were challenging, but really interesting. I can remember how we did our best to see a Chinese hamster’s chromosomes in the microscope. It was an interesting experience, especially for a physicist, says Svetlana Babicheva.

– During the trip to Dubna, we had an opportunity to visit a large number of enterprises relevant for our section: we explored the Dubna special economic zone, visited the N.P. Fedorov Dubna machine engineering plant, the Raduga design bureau, the Aspect research and development centre, and other innovative enterprises and research venues. We are very grateful to the Department of Innovation and Business and our university in general for a chance to be part of such a large-scale event. We learnt and saw a lot of new things and met interesting people passionate about what they do. Dubna is a beautiful quiet town with few cars and a lot of people talking about science in different languages of the world, said Dmitriy Meshcheryakov.
