On July 23, Environmental Movie Night was held at Divnogorie reserve as part of the Movie Night national project. This time, the organisers showed the audience three films from the International Green Documentary Film Festival “ECOCUP”. No entrance fee was charged.

In all the three films, the problem of environmental protection is discussed. The first film – Waste Mandala by Canadian directors Alessandro Bernard and Paolo Ceretto – tells a story of hope and patience. There is no special system in Nepal for the collection and disposal of waste. So, Nepal is practically a land devastated by plastic and rubbish generated by the rapid spread of consumption. Starting in 2011, a group of volunteers began gathering the trash abandoned on the peaks of the Himalayas and in Nepal’s sacred areas. Film duration – 52 min.

Seeds of time by an American director Sandy McLeod. This is a 77-minute global journey of Cary Fowler from Peru to Russia in search for the greatest treasure – crop diversity – that is continually decreasing. He has spent all his life trying to build up the Global Seed Vault in Norway, and finally he reaches his goal.

The next film – Soundtracker – by Nick Sherman portrays Gordon Hampton, who has been recording sounds unaltered by human hand for 30 years. Is something that we can’t hear a sound? How do trees sound? Waves? Desert heat? The night? The film is the quest by the sound artist for the voice of the Earth. It is teaches the audience how to listen and how to hear. The film duration is 82 min.

The ECOCUP festival was first held in 2010. This is the only festival in Russia that gives our audience the opportunity to watch international “green” films. The festival presents films that not only state environmental problems, but suggests solutions to them.
