The principal singer of Voronezh opera and ballet theatre, Igor Gornostayev, became a laureate of the first national opera award “Onegin”. He won the title for the “Master of the Stage” nomination for his part of Leporello in the opera “Don Giovanni”. The decision was taken by a judging panel chaired by the president of the award, the People's Artist of the RSFSR, USSR National Prize laureate, Sergey Leiferkus.
22 Russian opera and musical theatres took part in the competition for first national opera award “Onegin”, including Voronezh State Opera and Ballet Theatre. The theatre nominated for the award singers who played principal roles in Mozart’s opera “Don Giovanni” which was performed in the Voronezh theatre for the first time in September. However, the jury picked only one opera singer from Voronezh.
The award ceremony took place in the Alexandrinsky theatre on 27 November as a part of the 5th Saint Petersburg international cultural forum. The ceremony was held as a gala concert of opera singers from Russia and from all over the world.
