On 10 June, the third World Music festival will be held within Platonov Art Festival. Four groups from different countries will perform in the open air on the shore of a chalk lake in the White Well sport complex (Semiluki district). This year, the audience of the “World Music” will have a chance to enjoy the concerts by the ARVVAS duet from Norway, a singer from Gambia, Sona Jobarteh, a Japanese singer, Maïa Barouh, and a group from Iceland – Hjaltalín.

The ARVVAS duet will perform joik – traditional Lappish songs from Norway. The group combines folk songs with jazz accompanied by the double-bass. For Sona Jobarteh from Gambia, the World Music event will be her first concert in Russia. She is a Kora virtuoso. Kora is a national African plucked instrument. Maïa Barouh represents two countries – Japan and France. The earthquake and the nuclear accident that hit Japan in 2011 marked a turning point in her development as a musician. She immersed into the musical traditions of Japan, gathering the songs of fishermen, villagers, peasants in the region of Fukushima. At the festival, she will present her own interpretation of the cultural heritage and power of the places that have been turned into ruins. Hjaltalín band from Iceland will delight the lovers of electronic and pop music.

The World Music festival in the White Well Quarry was held for the first time in 2015. In 2016, the World Music event attracted 3.5 thousand spectators. Among the participants of the festival were musicians from Lithuania, Armenia, Georgia, Belarus, Morocco, Lebanon, Israel, South Korea, the USA, and Guinea.
