2018 has been announced the Russian-Japanese bilateral year. Due to this fact, VSU presented a fascinating exhibition “Russia and Japan: the Bridges of Friendship and Cooperation” in the hall of the first floor of the main building. The event was prepared by the VSU library and the Museum of History. Among the exhibits were books from the VSU library collections which are dedicated to the history and the economy of Japan, Russian and Japanese centuries-long relations, Japanese art (from the Kabuki theatre to netsuke), and literature (from the poetry of the middle ages to Yukio Mishima and Haruki Murakami).

These books will help the visitors to learn more about Japanese culture, traditions, and customs, discover myths and legends of this amazing country, and find out why Japanese paintings, which seem simple on first sight, are so tantalising.

The exhibition presents only a small porting of the VSU library’s collection of Japanese literature. The book stands also display works of national handicraft: a traditional Samurai sword rack, stone warriors, delicate beauties, and a well-known symbol of the Land of the Rising Sun, a branch of sakura.
