On 25 December, the exhibition of works of the winners of the children’s painting contest opened in the main building of Voronezh State University. The event is dedicated to the 150th birthday anniversary of the Voronezh narratress of folk tales, Anna Kupriyanovna Baryshnikova (Kupriyanikha). Young painters, their supervisors and parents, VSU students and lecturers, guests and media representatives, gathered near the Christmas tree in the hall of the ground floor.

“Russian fairy tale festival has been celebrated at the Faculty of Philology for five years. Every year, more and more schoolchildren and students, including international students from VSU and other Voronezh universities, are taking part in the event. This year the festival and the contest were organised with the support of the Voronezh Duma,  the Public Chamber of the Voronezh Region, and the deputy of the Voronezh Duma, Arkady Ponomarev,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Olga Berdnikova, in her welcoming speech.

The Head of the VSU Museum of History, Alexandra Stepynina, pointed out that the traditional children’s painting exhibition started just before the New Year Eve and Christmas Day. It made everyone feel cheerful and created a wonderful festive atmosphere. The young painter Grisha Lesnikov who gave a speech at the opening ceremony said that he likes Kupriyanikha’s fairy tales because they teach us to be kind.

Also, Ruben Michael van Vyke, an intern from Germany, read a Kupriyanikha’s fairy tale.

All guests and participants received an exclusive calendar for 2019 which contained pictures of the paintings that were presented at the exhibition. The calendar was prepared by students from the Faculty of Philology.
