The first forum of University rectors of the Russian Federation and Kyrgyz Republic “Development of Science and Education: Investing into the Future” took place in Bishkek. It was held prior to the visit of the President of the Russian federation, Vladimir Putin, to Bishkek and was aimed at expanding the scientific and educational partnership between the two countries. Among the participants of the event were representatives from 40 Russian universities headed by the President of the Russian Rectors' Union, Viktor Sadovnichy, and from 31 Kyrgyz universities. The Russian delegation included the Vice-President of the Russian Rectors' Union, the Rector of Voronezh State University, Dmitry Endovitsky.
The participants and the guests of the forum, were welcomed by the President of Kyrgyz Republic, Sooronbay Jeenbekov, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Kotukov, and the Minister of Education and Science of Kyrgyz Republic, Gulmira Kudaiberdieva. In his welcoming speech the President of Kyrgyz Republic said that Kyrgyz universities are interested in mutual integration and cooperation with Russian universities and thanked Russian rectors for their participation in the forum.
During the event, VSU signed 6 cooperation agreements with Kyrgyz universities: Oshsk State University, Adyshev Oshsk Technological University, Yeltsin Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, Zhusup Balasagyn Kyrgyz National University, and Bishkek Humanitarian University.
