The biogeographical segment of the landscape and environmental practical training of the second year students of the Ecology and Natural Resource Management, the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology, and Tourism, Voronezh State University, was held in July and was for the first time powered by the iNaturalist biodiversity universal database.
Dmitry Vladimirov, an associate professor of the Department of Recreational Geography, Country Studies and Tourism, developed a project entitled “Landscape and Environmental Practical Training of the Voronezh State University” within this platform, specifically for this practical training. The students of our university conducted their research from the 4th till the 17th of July. They managed to register 645 species of plants, including those which are listed in the regional Red Books and the Red Book of Russia. The research covered the area from the Tula region in the north to the Krasnodar and Astrakhan regions in the south.
All the data for the “Landscape and Environmental Practical Training of the Voronezh State University” project is open to public and may be used for scientific, research and nature conservation purposes.
The iNaturalist database contains data on all living organisms of the Earth. Each Internet user may register with the system as an observer and upload their monitoring results into the system via their account. There are 1,181,990 observers all around the world at present, with 12,084 people from Russia.
