On 21 October, a video conference with Dr. Sue Garton, professor from Aston University (Birmingham, Great Britain) and Honorary Doctor of VSU, was held in English language in a computer class of the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology of VSU. The online meeting for first year students of the master’s programme “Teaching Foreign Languages with the Help of Online Technologies” was organised by the Associate Professor of the Department of English Philology, Elena Chaika.
The prominent European colleague shared her view on teaching foreign languages using ICT in Great Britain. She also answered the students’ questions about the changes in the organisation of educational process at Aston University due to the pandemic. Dr. Sue Garton told the students about the effectiveness of the use of online technologies for teaching foreign languages and the issues associated with them. She also talked about modern approaches and methods of teaching languages in different educational institutions of Great Britain.
Representatives of Voronezh State University established close cooperation with Dr. Sue Garton in 2013–2017. She was one of the chief coordinators of the TEMPUS project on “Modernising European Language Teaching through the Introduction of Online Technologies in the Process of Teacher Training”. Now Sue Garton is Full Member of the Higher Education Academy of the UK, Chair of the Standing Committee for Research of the International TESOL Association, researcher, author, and editor of multiple publications on language teacher education.
