On 28 October, the Times Higher Education (THE) magazine published the THE World University Rankings by Subject – 2021. For “Physical Sciences” and “Engineering and Technical Sciences”, VSU is at the 1001+ position.
“2020 turned out to be a productive year for VSU concerning the evaluation of the university’s performance by the Times Higher Education ranking agency. We have become successful in a number of rankings. VSU entered the THE Impact Ranking for the second time and the THE World University Rankings for the fifth time. VSU is again among the best universities in Europe according to the ranking THE Best Universities in Europe and has recently entered another two subject rankings, for “Engineering and Technical Sciences” and for “Physical Sciences”. By the way, it’s not the first time that Times Higher Education has included our university in its rankings. We are determined to move further ahead and strengthen our positions in 2021,” said VSU Rector Dmitry Endovitsky.
The evaluation of the level of universities’ achievements in the Times Higher Education rankings of the best world universities by subject is based on the results of statistical analysis of their activities as well as the results of annual global expert survey of the representatives of the international academic community and employers. Similar to the general world ranking, the ranking by subjects evaluates universities by 13 parameters which form 5 categories: level of teaching, quality of research, level of research citation, the university’s involvement in innovation processes, and global research. These parameters are different in their significance as compared to the parameters of the world ranking and they take into account specific features of certain fields of science.
