On 28 January, Professor Khidmet Shikhaliev, DSc in Chemistry, the Head of the Department of Organic Chemistry, celebrated his 60th anniversary.
The life of Khidmet Shikhaliev has been bound up with the Faculty of Chemistry of Voronezh State University for over 40 years. During this period, he spread his passion for organic chemistry among the many students of the Faculty of Chemistry. 20 of them defended their PhD dissertations under his supervision and 3 of them received their DSc degrees. The people who know Khidmet Shikhaliev think highly of him as of a determined, optimistic, and energetic person who is good at finding alternative solutions, developing friendly relations, persuading, encouraging cooperation, and avoiding conflicts.
His scientific interests include fundamental research relating to the development of methods for tailor-made synthesis of new organic compounds, various areas for their practical application in medicine (antimicrobial, anticancer drugs, blood thinners), agriculture (growth regulators of plants, micronutrients), oil production (inhibitors of steel acid corrosion, clay coagulants), heat-exchange equipment (copper corrosion inhibitors), and cosmetic and food industries (CTAB and emulsifiers). Such diversity helps Khidmet Shikhaliev keep up with the latest scientific trends, develop cooperation between faculties as well as cooperation with other universities and institutions, including cooperation with regard to joint research within grants and government orders.
Khidmet Shikhaliev is a responsible manager, a real professional, a reliable friend and a colleague, and a unique person.
