On 26–27 November the International Scientific Conference “Poet’s Vacancy-3. Crisis of the Poetic/Expansion of the Poetic” was held remotely at the Faculty of Philology of VSU. The conference was devoted to the media of contemporary poetic texts, issues of amateurism in poetry, and the existence of poetry outside literature. 28 speakers from Russia, Germany, Italy, and China participated in the conference.
In the first section titled “Complex poems in pop culture: the logic of appropriation and reassembling” they discussed the methods for the adaptation of poetic classics of the XX century in modern music and theatre projects. In the second section titled “Poetic/political and contemporary modes of (not) reading” they discussed the ways of correlation of poetry and political activism, the issue of “archaists and innovators”, and the melancholic subjectivity of modern lyrics. The third section “Media of contemporary poetic texts. Poetry outside the literary field” was dedicated to the effect of new media and social networks on poetic communication, text structure, and the image of a poet. The last section called “Contemporary Russian poetry: strategies and personalities” was related to the author’s individual strategies and examples showing the “expansion of the poetic”.
The conference was the final stage in the VSU philologists’ work on the project of the Russian Science Foundation “Poet and Poetry in the Post-historic Era” (2019–2021). Over the course of three years, the project team have published 3 monographs, 13 articles in Web of Science and Scopus, and over 40 articles in different journals.
