Lecturers from the Department of General Linguistics and Stylistics of the Faculty of Philology of VSU held a round table discussion dedicated to the celebration of the International Mother Language Day at Nikitin library. The topic for the discussion was conflicts in communication.
Associate Professors Natalia Kozelskaya, Galina Selezneva, Maria Salomatina, and Mariana Rozenfeld tried to understand how people can communicate without having rows. They talked about how conflicts emerge in communication, the strategies to overcome them, identified speech formulas that trigger conflicts, and identified types of conflict-generating personalities.
The International Mother Language Day is celebrated all over the world. It was first announced by the decision of the thirtieth session of UNESCO in November 1999 and has been celebrated annually on 21 February since 2000. Its goal is to protect linguistic and cultural diversity.
