On 24 March, an exhibition by young Voronezh artists Artem Zolotarev, Anna Kokorina, Anton Litvinov, Mikhail Motrichuk, and Nikita Smorodinov opened in the Rector’s Gallery at VSU. The exhibition was dedicated to the 350th birthday of Emperor Peter the Great.

Bringing together experienced artists and creative young people has become a tradition at VSU. Not long ago, an exhibition of works by seven Full Members of the Russian Academy of Arts was hosted by the VSU History Museum. Now there is an opportunity to admire the artworks of their apprentices, recent graduates of the Voronezh Arts College. The central idea of the exhibition by five young artists is finding one’s way in contemporary art. The authors try to answer questions about the prospects of contemporary painting and graphics. The general trend of the exhibition is an intuitive movement from the familiar and traditional features to the innovative tendencies in the visual arts.

The artists use a variety of techniques: conventional oil painting, colour and black-and-white drawing using liner and pencil, watercolour, as well as various painting styles: realism, romanticism, impressionism, symbolism, and cubism.

“We are proud that VSU has become a venue for discovering new names. The artists whose works are featured in the exhibition appeal to the feelings and emotions of the audience. The VSU Rector’s Gallery is a unique exhibition platform that provides career opportunities for emerging artists. Exhibitions held at the university give the featured artists a great chance to reach a very wide and predominantly young audience. It is an exhibition space open not only for the staff and students of VSU, but also for all Voronezh citizens and guests. It is also a forum for lively discussions,” said Anzhelika Makarova, the main guardian of the collections of the VSU History Museum.

The opening of the exhibition began and ended with performances by Rauf Ragimov, a student from the Faculty of Computer Sciences and a violinist.
