An education programme of Voronezh State University, 05.00.00 “Geosciences”, entered the premier league of the National Subject Aggregate Ranking. The ranking traditionally demonstrates the strength of the universities in Moscow and determines the leaders in subject areas among regional universities.
The subject ranking is an instrument of assessment of the achievements of a university in specific fields of science and professional training. It can be used to compare the education programmes of various universities. Thus, universities specialising in certain fields of study can assess their position as compared to others. Among the top three universities in the premier league in the field of study 05.00.00 “Geosciences” are Kazan Federal University, North Caucasian Federal University, and Russian State Hydrometeorological University (St. Petersburg). VSU occupies 14th position out of 20 in the premier league (close to Moscow State University which is on 11th place).
The ranking was conducted by the Guild of Experts in Professional Education together with National Fund for Support of Innovations in Education. The ranking covers 55 major groups of fields of study corresponding to the education programmes implemented by universities. The ranking is based on the results of national subject rankings, results of the entrance exams, bibliometric databases, and the level of recognition of the education programmes by professional communities and employers.
