A graduate of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics Maria Demchenko is a prize-winner of the regional stage of the competition “Digital Breakthrough. Season: Artificial Intelligence”. She took 5th place and entered the top 15 of the contestants. Maria completed a PhD programme at VSU under the supervision of Irina Kashirina. For her thesis, she worked on machine learning.
Within the competition, 421 contestants worked on the task set by the Ministry of Digital Development of the Republic of Tatarstan. They were to develop a model for recognition of face images, shapes of human bodies, and license plates. The suggested solutions will help to depersonalize personal data and thus prevent it from being used by criminals.
“I’d say the task was very clearly defined. But I had to experiment with various models and approaches to obtain more accuracy. I think “Digital Breakthrough” is interesting because there you have to face completely new problems,” commented Maria Demchenko.
