Between 18 and 22 October, the Moscow Palace of Wushu held a national wushu tournament “Generation Bridge” organised according to the timetable of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation and supported by the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, the Department of Sport of Moscow, and the national sports public organisation “Russian Wushu Federation”. Among the participants were over 500 sportsmen between the age of 9 and 70 from 31 regions of Russia.

The Voronezh Region was represented by a team formed by the regional Wushu Federation. The team included sportsmen of all age groups. The team of the Voronezh Region won 33 medals, including 6 gold, 17 silver, and 10 bronze. Sergey Antipov, DSc in Biology, Associate Professor at the Department of Biophysics and Biotechnology of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, won the second place in the “Veteran” category (kung fu – traditional wushu, qiangshu, taijiquan, 36–50-year–old males).

“Wushu is an ancient sport aiming at the development of both the body and the personality, as well as at broadening the range of human abilities. It was my first tournament of such a level, although I’ve been doing wushu since I was a schoolboy. When I entered the university, my priorities changed, and I had a long break in training, for about 20 years. Last spring, I got in touch with ma coach, Yuri Belov, who is the head of the regional Wushu Federation now. 40 years ago, he founded a wushu school “Flying Eagle”. He recommended me to try taijiquan as a healthy habit, and this September he suggested me to take part in the national tournament “Generation Bridge”. I managed to take second place, which was both unexpected and an honour. I would like to say thank you to Yuri Belov for encouraging me to participate in the tournament. I am also grateful to all the coaches and everyone who supported me. This tournament showed me that harmonic personal development is possible at any age. And it occurs not only in a laboratory or a library. It can well take place in a gym”, said Sergey Antipov.
