On 28 October, the Faculty of Philology hosted the annual 8th all-Russian research conference with international participation dedicated to the study of word meaning as a phenomenon of the actual language consciousness of native speakers. From this year, the conference is called “Sternin Readings: Meaning as a Phenomenon of the Actual Linguistic Consciousness of Native Speakers”.
The conference was organised by the Department of General Linguistics and Stylistics of the Faculty of Philology of VSU, Voronezh Psycholinguistic Association, and the Communicative Research Centre named after Professor Iosif Sternin.
The meeting was attended by more than 30 scientists from Voronezh, Borisoglebsk, Bryansk, Vladimir, Elets, Kostroma, Krasnodar, Lipetsk, Moscow, Mytishchi, Nalchik, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Perm, Saint Petersburg, Saratov, Smolensk, Tver, Tolyatti, and Tula; there were also reports from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and the Donetsk People’s Republic.
The conference was opened by the chair of the organising committee, Aleksandra Rudakova, Associate Professor from the Department of General Linguistics and Stylistics. The conference was held on ZOOM. It was moderated by Professor Marina Sternina, Head of the Department of English Language for Sciences Faculties.
The participants had 4 plenary lectures and took part in 3 workshops: Experimental and Comparative Description of Language Semantics, Communicative Aspect and Word Semantics in the Text, and Semantic Studies of Language Units. Among the speakers were Professor Zainep Bazarbaeva, full member of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, DSc in Philology, professors and associate professors from various universities, as well as novice researchers: students from Voronezh State University, Omsk State University, and Kuban State University.
The reports will be published in the 8th issue of the proceedings of the conference of the same name.
