The qualifying round of the 2022–2023 South and Volga Region Programming Championship was held on 16 October (it is one of the rounds of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) for student teams). This year the contest was held offline in 20 Russian cities simultaneously. Over 350 teams took part in it. Voronezh State University once again hosted the qualifying round.

39 teams from 6 Voronezh universities competed at VSU: Voronezh State University (26 teams); Voronezh State Forest Engineering University (5 teams); Zhukovsky and Gagarin Air Force Military Academic Centre (4 teams); Voronezh State University of Engineering Technologies (2 teams); Voronezh State Technical University (1 team), and Voronezh Institute of High Technologies (1 team). VSU was represented by the teams from the Faculty of Mathematics, the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, and the Faculty of Computer Sciences.

This year the participants were asked to solve 13 different tasks. For each task, they had to create an algorithm for its solution and write it as a programme in any programming language, taking into account the time and memory limitations. Thus, they were supposed to find and offer the best possible solution. To do this, you need not only great programming knowledge and creative thinking but also deep knowledge of discrete mathematics, the theory of algorithms, and some other areas of mathematics.

VSU teams showed a high level of training and received 4 diplomas in total. Other teams from VSU and the Air Force Military Academic Centre were also successful: they managed to solve 6-7 tasks which is a good result at the contest of this level.

The 40 best teams made it into the final of the South and Volga Region Programming Championship, including 3 teams from VSU. What is more, thanks to the success of VSU teams in last year competitions, our university has a right to send two more teams.

The final of the South and Volga Region Programming Championship will be held on 22 November in Saratov.
