A VSU partner company will launch a DevOps engineering training course for students from the Faculty of Computer Sciences. The course was developed by employees of the Sitronics Group development centre (part of AFK Sistema) in Voronezh. It will last one semester and will be held for senior students. They will be introduced to a number of fundamental practices and tools that are necessary to solve problems connected with creating and maintaining an up-to-date software infrastructure.

The course will be comprised of 16 theoretical and practical classes, during which students from the Faculty of Computer Science of VSU will consider the key tasks of a DevOps engineer: working with Linux servers, virtual machines, automation of software development, monitoring, and quality control. The training will begin on 13 February.

“DevOps engineer is one of the most demanded professions in the Russian IT market today. Sitronics Group has an extensive experience in developing complex solutions for businesses, manufacturing, fintech, and other industries. That is why we decided to create a training programme that will make it possible for beginner developers to gain practical experience and learn to solve urgent problems,” said Pavel Dreiger, Vice President for Software Products and Solutions at Sitronics Group.

Students from the Faculty of Computer Science of VSU will learn about the latest trends in software development for major players in the Russian and foreign markets. They will learn how to manage virtual machines using Vagrant, to configure them using Ansible, to create Docker images and containers, and much more.

“DevOps methods, of course, should be taught by highly qualified practising specialists. We are very glad that our Russian partner, Sitronics Group, is going to hold an elective course for students from the Faculty of Computer Sciences. I am sure that the elective course will be very popular! In the nearest future, we will include a similar course in the main bachelor's and master's degree programmes”, said Alexander Krylovetsky, the Dean of the Faculty of Computer Sciences.

The best students will have the opportunity to complete a practical training at the Sitronics Group development centre in Voronezh.

“Many of us studied at VSU, that is why we want to express our gratitude to our alma mater. We do not want to overload students: they still have their responsibilities with regard to their main educational programme. That is why this course is optional, it is for those who really want to improve their skills, fill in the gaps in their skills,” said Yuri Sintyaev, the Head of the Department of Software Development in Voronezh.

Earlier, Sitronics Group and VSU signed an agreement to develop and implement modern digital and production technologies used in the real sector of the economy and in education. Sitronics Group (part of AFK Sistema) is a Russian multifunctional IT company that implements digital projects for businesses and the state, implements integrated smart city, security and transport solutions, digitises strategic sectors of the economy, shipping, marine navigation, manufactures original IT equipment, provides satellite data and digital monitoring services, and develops IoT systems and software.
