On 15 March, within the framework of cooperation between Voronezh State University and Masherov Vitebsk State University, the two universities held a joint Russian-Belarusian dictation dedicated to the Day of Constitution of the Republic of Belarus. Among the participants of the online dictation were students of the second and third years from Voronezh State University who study the Belarusian language and students from the Faculty of Humanities and Language Communications of the Vitebsk State University who study Russian.
The participants of the event were welcomed by Sergey Nikolaenko, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Language Communications, and Zhanna Gracheva, Dean of the Faculty of Philology. Also, Valentina Bogatyreva, Rector of Masherov Vitebsk State University, addressed the audience via videoconferencing.
Voronezh students wrote a dictation in Belarusian about traditional potato dishes, which was read out by Miroslava Bobrik, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. The dictation in Russian about Russian folk crafts for Belarusian students was voiced by Elena Plyaskova, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Philology.
The participants were also addressed by Daria Galtsova, a lecturer at the Department of Slavic Philology of Voronezh State University. In Belarusian, she thanked her Vitebsk colleagues for organising the event and expressed hope for further cooperation.
Students from Voronezh State University learned about the peculiarities of Belarusian national cuisine and studied Belarusian culture-specific terms and students from Vitebsk State University found out what Russian folk crafts are and revised the formation of long adjectives.
“We need such events to help students develop and do something unusual because this creates conditions for personal growth. And in general, it was an interesting experience to practise the Belarusian language!” said Daria Suvorova, a second year student from Voronezh State University.
