On March 29, the “Mediacompass” quest was held at the Faculty of International Relations, aimed at developing the ability of students to distinguish reliable information from false in the media. The event was organized within the framework of the international model United Nations with the support of the authors of the project "Educational platform "Competencies of the 21st century"", the winners of the grant contest for lecturers of master’s programmes in 2021/22 of the V. Potanin Scholarship Program, Associate Professor of the Department of Public Relations, Advertising and Design of the Faculty of Journalism of Voronezh State University Ekaterina Kurganova and Associate Professor of the Department of Labour Economics and Management Fundamentals of the Faculty of Economics Natalia Belenova.
The quest's participants were divided into five teams, each team was accompanied by a curator. There were five stations in total: “Cube and questions”, “Working with first sources”, “Fake”, “Post for social networks”, “Public and private media”, where students had to test their media competence skills. For completing the tasks, the participants received points, according to the results of which the organizers determined the winning team. The teams "All women except one", "Scarlet Sails", "Las Palmos", "Rotten eggplants", and "Homo Piranus" fought for the right to be the first.
The "Homo Piranus" team became the winner: the participants received merch with the symbols of VSU. Separately, the participants of other teams, students of the Faculty of International Relations Daria Tanchuk (“Las Palmos”), Mikhail Ershov (“Scarlet Sails”), Alexander Semenichenko (“Rotten eggplants”) were distinguished and awarded prizes.
“In my opinion, both the participants and the organizers did an excellent job with the task and enjoyed themselves, which means they spent the time usefully,” said Mikhail Ershov, a fourth year student of the Faculty of International Relations.
It should be noted that in December 2022, the media quest was held for the first time for master’s degree students of the Faculty of Economics of Voronezh State University.
