On 21 and 28 May, the Leisure and Culture Centre and administration of the Institute of International Education of Voronezh State University organised a tour of the Palace of Oldenburg for international students. Such tours are held every year and remain highly popular.
Following a guide, the students went through several rooms in the palace. The guide told them about the history of the palace and its English architecture, about the 10-year-old owner of the palace Evgenia Oldenburgskaya (born Leichtenbergskaya), the great granddaughter of Joséphine Bonaparte, the first wife of Emperor Napoleon I. The students also learned about the purchase of the palace and the environmental contribution of princess Oldenburgskaya.
After the palace, the students also visited the entourage building, which is now housing an exhibition dedicated to the Oldenburg family – relatives of the European and Russian rulers.
After the tour, the students walked in the park surrounding the palace, made photos and bought souvenirs.
“I’m from Morocco, and there are a lot of historic places in my country, but, unfortunately, there are no such wonderful tours. It was very interesting and educational”, said El Hajjary Fatima-Ezzahra, student of the International Education Institute of VSU.
