Between 19 and 23 July, the national sports programming competition among student teams “Cup of the Future” was held in Tumen. Among the participants of the competitions were students from Tumen and teams of various universities from ten cities of Russia. Voronezh and VSU were represented by two teams from the Faculty of Computer Sciences.
The competitions lasted for two days, during each of which the participants had to solve 10 algorithmic problems within 5 hours. For each problem the participants were to design an effective algorithm and implement it as a programme using any programming language.
Despite the fact that the most experienced team of the Faculty of Computer Sciences was shorthanded, Nikita Berezhnov and Maxim Novotochinov were able to win bronze medals. For them, these were their fourth medals at the competitions held by the Federation of Sports Programming of Russia. They had won the other medals at the national and international competitions in Voronezh and Grozny.
A team from Petrozavodsk also won bronze medals. Silver medals were awarded to students from the University of Science and Technology MISIS (Moscow). And the winners of the competition were students from Saratov State University.
The second team of students from the Faculty of Computer Sciences, consisting of Yegor Rogachev, Pavel Pechenkin, and Konstantin Lugovsky, showed a great performance and took 8th place.
“Despite the long journey by bus and plane to Tumen and back, I enjoyed the trip. Tumen is a beautiful city with an amazing promenade, rich in history and traditions. The organisation of the competitions and related events were at a high level, largely thanks to the efforts of the Tumen Industrial University. There were two of us in the team and we are glad that we were able to show a decent result anyway,” said Nikita Berezhnov.
