A laboratory of gallium nitride and silicon electronics was opened in the main building of VSU on 28 December. In August 2023 it was announced that Voronezh State University won a grant of 100 million roubles for the creation of this laboratory.
VSU Rector Dmitry Endovitsky, General Director of Research Institute of Electronic Technology (NIIET) and laureate of the award by the Government of the Russian Federation 2023 in the area of science and technology Pavel Kutsko, PhD in Technical Sciences, and the Dean of the Faculty of Physics Oleg Ovchinnikov were present at the opening ceremony. Dmitry Endovitsky noted that it was an important event for VSU, Pavel Kutsko expressed his gratitude to Voronezh State University for the initiative in the creation of the laboratory and an advanced engineering school.
“The laboratory of gallium nitride and silicon electronics is one brick in the foundation of gallium nitride technology which we want to turn the Voronezh Region’s brand, meanwhile continuing to develop the Voronezh electronics industry. The creation of the laboratory is a significant event not only for the university itself, but also for NIIET and the electronics industry of the entire country. Maintaining technological sovereignty is the main task set by the government for the industrial sector. We are the proof of the achieved success.
Pavel Kutsko expressed hope for the further cooperation between VSU and Research Institute of Electronic Technology and new achievements.
All the equipment in the laboratory offers great opportunities for the promotion of gallium nitride and silicon electronics in the Voronezh Region. Future electronics industry specialists will be trained at this lab.
“Opening a laboratory of gallium nitride and silicon electronics is a unique project by the governor. All of this became possible thanks to Alexander Gusev who provided support measures for federally governed universities,” said VSU Rector Dmitry Endovitsky.
