An international round table discussion “Russian emigrant scientists, members of international academies of sciences” was held in Moscow on 5 February. The event was dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the foundation of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The Alexander Solzhenitsyn House of Russia Abroad and personally Marina Sorokina, Head of the Department of History of Russia Abroad, invited representatives of Voronezh State University to take part in the discussion.
VSU lecturers and students presented the results of four years of work on translations from French into Russian: lectures, diaries, and other archival materials of Professor Nikolay G. Nifontov, an outstanding physicist, who was ahead of his time and foresaw the development of science for many years to come.
Among the speakers representing Voronezh State University were Dmitry Zhukalin, Head of the Department of Innovations, Associate Professor at the Department of Semiconductor Physics and Microelectronics, Nina Cherepkova, Associate Professor at the Department of French Philology, Alina Bessmertnaya, a fifth-year student from the Faculty of the Romance and Germanic Philology, Yadviga Orlovskaya, a second year student from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, and Dunia Nassikh, a second year student from the Faculty of Journalism. They gave reports dedicated to scientific achievements, life, and scientific heritage of the scientist who celebrated his 100th anniversary in 2023.
Their presentations were highly praised by the participants of the international round table discussion. The Alexander Solzhenitsyn House of Russia Abroad invited the representatives of VSU for further cooperation.
The VSU scientific and educational interfaculty project “N.G. Nifontov” is carried out in the framework of cooperation between the Department of French Philology, the Regional Centre for French Research, and the Department of Semiconductor Physics and Microelectronics.
