The International Physicists’ Tournament, which brought together 21 teams from Europe, Asia, and North and South America, concluded in Zurich (Switzerland). The Russian team was headed by representatives of VSU: Yakov Breev, a graduate of the Department of Theoretical Physics, and Anastasia Chervinskaya, a graduate of VSU, PhD in Physics and Mathematics.

This year, a team from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the Higher School of Economics took part in the international tournament. Yakov Breev and Anastasia Chervinskaya became the leaders of the MIPT team as they both work at the Department of General Physics of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. The team leaders also included Artyom Sukhov, a representative of MIPT. The team members were: Danila Novikov (team captain), Ekaterina Rosnovskaya, Arina Mironova, Matvey Anoshin, Alexey Gusev, all of them representatives of MIPT. Another participant was Yan Malyavko from the Higher School of Economics.

“The preparation was focused on solving problems as well as on our speeches, including reports, opposition and reviews,” said Yakov Breev.

As a result of selection stages, the Russian team reached the semi-finals from third place. In the semi-finals the teams’ results were really close. According to the results of the semi-finals, the team from Russia took fourth place out of 21, and the finalists were from France, Germany, and Italy.

The Russian team qualified for the International Physicists’ Tournament in Zurich after winning the All-Russian Physicists’ Tournament, which was held at the Higher School of Economics in February 2024. The tournament was organised in collaboration with the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the financial support of Novatek and the MIPT Endowment Fund.

“Although there was only a month between the Russian and international stages of the tournament, they managed to perform well together and take fourth place out of 21 teams. Arina Mironova from MIPT became the best reviewer of the tournament,” said Anastasia Chervinskaya.
