Between 23 and 24 April, the 2023–2024 Voronezh Chess Universiade was held at the chess and checkers centre of school No. 13. Teams from ten universities took part in the competition: VSU-1, VSU-2, Voronezh State Technical University, Voronezh State University of Engineering Technologies, Voronezh State Agricultural University, Russian State University of Justice, Voronezh Institute of the Federal Penitentiary Service, Voronezh State Medical University, Voronezh State Pedagogical University, and the Voronezh Institute of High Technologies. Being a many-time champion of the Chess Universiade, VSU was represented by two teams.
The universiade included individual and team competitions in speed chess. There were eight contests: six male and two female. With a score of 13, the VSU-1 team won the competition in a hard-fought battle. Voronezh State Technical University took second place with 13 points. Third place was taken by the team from Voronezh State University of Engineering Technologies (10 points). The VSU-2 team gained 8 points and took 5th place.
VSU-1 got a draw (4:4) with Voronezh State Technical University. Both teams won the remainder of their contests. Based on additional indicators (the total score), Voronezh State University was announced to be the winner of the championship.
In the individual competition, students from VSU also won several prizes. Maxim Popov, FIDE Master in Chess, won the first male contest. Samir Ismailov, the Candidate Master of Sports, won the fifth male contest. Alexey Rykin, 1st class player, won the sixth male contest. Sofia Perch, 1st class player, won the first female contest. Anastasiya Panteleeva, 1st class player, won the second female contest.
